DAGON

For a book illustration class, the main goal was to have created a fully fleshed-out book dummy by the end of the academic quarter. I was unsure of what direction I wanted to go so I combined the ideas I was most drawn to at the time: classic literature and children’s stories. The premise of this store is that it is H.P. Lovecraft’s Dagon with a twist. I maintained the dark and mysterious themes of the original story but once Lovecraft’s writing ends is where my writing comes to continue with my own story. I chose this story because the descriptions of the creature were relatively vague which provided me with more creative freedom. Turning Dagon into a friendly, silly character was a little bit of a challenge, but I loved the outcome because the change brought a new life and humor to the story.

While this is just a book dummy at the moment, I would love to one day fully complete this book and one day have it published so that more people can love Dagon as much as I have come to love him.
